A diagnostic reagent for the quantitative determination of procalcitonin in serum or plasma in vitro using a photometric system.
Procalcitonin is a protein released by the body in response to bacterial infections. PCT can be used as a marker to detect sepsis and other bacterial infections.
Quantitative testing of PCT is based on immunoassay techniques. Chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) technology is used to quantitatively determine PCT in human serum and plasma. 1 Elevated PCT levels are primarily triggered by pro-inflammatory cytokines released during severe systemic and local bacterial infections. Measurement of PCT values can be used to monitor the response to antibiotic therapy. A decrease in PCT levels over time often indicates the effectiveness of the treatment.
Particle enhanced immunoturbidimetric test.
- Ready-to-use liquid reagent (open-system) without reconstitution.
