In vitro diagnostic reagent for quantitative examination of iron in serum or plasma using photometric system.
Iron is a mineral that plays an important role in DNA synthesis and many other metabolic processes. It is also an essential component of heme, within hemoglobin, the protein responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body.
Iron plays a crucial role in the human body, particularly in oxygen transport and cellular metabolism. Most of the iron binds to transferrin to be carried to the bone marrow for red blood cell production, while the rest is stored in the liver as ferritin to prevent damage caused by free iron. Iron is also an essential component of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen, myoglobin, which supports muscle function, and acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in energy metabolism, DNA synthesis, hormone production, and immune function.
Iron-related diseases include iron overload conditions such as hemochromatosis and iron deficiency which can cause anemia.
- Iron Overload (Hemochromatosis): A condition in which the body absorbs and stores too much iron, causing it to build up in organs such as the liver, heart, and pancreas.
- Iron Deficiency (Anemia): Occurs when the balance of iron intake, iron stores, and iron loss in the body is insufficient to support full erythrocyte production.
Photometric testing using Ferene.
- Ready-to-use liquid reagent (open-system) without reconstitution.
- Excellent linearity and stability performance.
- Available in MPK (Multi-Purpose Kit) and dedicated kit.
